"Bento Box of Expressions"
Acrylic paint, acrylic boxes, acrylic tubes, candies, plastic film sheets, string, wire 24 x 18 x 2.5 inches I feel more at ease when I can express myself with my face (facial expressions) than with words. Through this observational work or self-portrait, I captured six expressions I thought reflected best who I am. Sometimes I laugh and smile, but sometimes, I feel pensive and glum for no apparent reason. Sometimes, I notice expressions I did not realize I had through random events. I tried to record my many faces, like the ones I wear when bombarded with my mom’s nagging, or when I come across an amazing score from a musical, or when I receive an unexpected gift, like a box of candy. I also wanted to combine 2D and 3D elements by enclosing three expressions in acrylic boxes and filling them in with words and thread that looks like a sound wave and candy, to add depth and make the piece "move" and be more dynamic. |
