Dear Daddy
Pastel, conté, charcoal, colored pencil 21.5 x 25 inches There is a subway near my apartment and on the days I come home late in the evening I see a stream of men in suits also on their way home. It reminds me of my dad who works to support our family. The lights are the lights of the city traffic and lights along the sidewalk that shine upon the many men and women who work 9 to 5 who are exhausted as they make their way home. In fact, one evening, I ran into my dad on the street outside of our complex as he was coming in and I was going out to pick up something from the art store. When I called out "dad" I remember him looking up and a car's headlights shining straight into his face and he just looked so happy to see me despite being tired. I chose to represent my dad as a deer that can be seen in the foreground. I wanted to create this painting as a letter to my dad, as a than you for his love and support. |
