"Meal for an Elephant"
Acrylic and oil pastel 22.5 x 18 inches I have always thought that one of the most important steps of making a friend is sharing a meal. You learn what the other person enjoys and sharing those flavors, you share a bit of them, becoming closer in the process. In this observational piece, I created a still-life composition with a tray of my favorite foods like fries and grape soda (favorite foods do not necessarily have to be healthy). Instead of sharing them with another person, I chose to share this meal with one of my favorite animals - the elephant. I chose to show what an elephant would enjoy, like bananas and an apple, which are in contrast to my greasy fast food. I also wanted to include my own reflection in the mirrored tray to have me be the link that bridges the gap. |
