A Gothic Interpretation
PVC sheets, foam board, nail polish, nuts and bolts, acrylic stick [dimensions] [Weight] This piece is inspired by the themes and construction of Gothic Architecture (especially stained glass windows). I was blown away by all the gothic architecture I saw during my recent trip to Europe this summer. Enchanted by the beauty of the rising towers and the intricate details, I wanted to make a more imaginative version of the gothic architecture that I had encountered. So, I made a musical stage inspired by Gothic Architecture. I made the basic frame out of PVC sheets in a geometric, stained-glass style. I wanted the stage to be reflective of the rich colors and the detailed nature of stained glass. I chose PVC as the material because of its ease of use and its reflective nature. I wanted to build a stage that could be moved around and adjusted so I attached the foam board stage bases together with nuts and bolts. The idea of movement was big in this piece because I wanted the stage actors to be able to adjust the stage according to the performance and I wanted to reflect the soaring movement of the stage roof/ walls as inspired by gothic architecture. Through this project, I was able to combine my interests of musical stages and gothic architecture to create this work. I hope I can build (and maybe even perform on) this stage in the future. The world of technology and art is growing every day—I don’t think it would be too ridiculous to say that this type of stage design is something that we will see in the future. |
