Elephant
clay, acrylic paint, i-clay, strings 12x16x18 I chose to create this elephant out of my love for the circus (and in particular, cirque du soleil productions). I also love elephants in general and had a very positive experience with them on a family trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand. I appreciate the animal and the way it takes its time to do things, the maternal instinct they have, and the enormous and highly intelligent nose they have. I wanted to convey a sense of wonder and delight so I painted on the elephant’s skin with a cool design and pattern. The Elephant is looking up in awe of the falling popcorn from the sky. I wanted to try out an installation-like piece for the first time and I think it was quite successful this time around. I do need to make some future adjustment to the size and scale of the elephant in relationship to the popcorn. Perhaps I will make sure to give this more thoughts on future projects I plan and pursue so as not to have to worry about visibility, proximity between the two elements of the piece (the elephant and the popcorn balls). |
