I Am So Cool
Buttons, wire, medical tube, isopink, acrylic boards 19x15x27 When you think of the most majestic creature in the world, what do you think of? To me, I think of the confident peacock. I wanted to capture the unique beauty of a peacock with mundane everyday objects. When I was experimenting with different materials, it occurred to me that it would be interesting to work with buttons of different shapes and colors. My original intent was to make the peacock’s long feathers--the buttons and beads strung onto the wire--to be the main focus, but what turned out to be even more intriguing was the material I chose for the peacock’s head and neck: medical tubing with a liquid stopper. Blue button-like dots in the liquid stopper reminded me of the bird’s delicate face with opaque eyes, and the end pointy part of the tubing seemed like a beak. The tubing itself was flexible, so I could curve the neck to make the bird gaze downwards. This beautiful bird is actually a collection of random found objects that when combined makes something majestic. |
