Sheep
Wire wool, acrylic paint, wire, isopink 10x20x12 This project was an experiment in playing with texture. I had loved sheep as an animal ever since I was a child. I appreciate the sheep’s docile attitude and their calm demeanor on life. So, I wanted to create a work that conveyed this love but also introduced the sheep wool texture in a playful way. I noticed my mother using steel wool to wash dishes and and other cooking tools at home and I got the idea: the springs on the iron wool almost look like sheep wool too! So with this idea in mind, I got to work on choosing the sheep pose, cutting and painting the woolly parts, etc. The final product became a symbol of realizing one’s differences and appreciating them. The sheep (which does not like any normal sheep by any standard) is looking at its own reflection in the tiny mirror, maybe to ask itself or to wonder why they look a bit different from the others. I hope that the message this work can convey is that being different is ok and we should embrace our differences rather than to reject or to change them. |
