Snake
wire, safety pins, sequins, plastic spoons, nail polish, tin foil 10x12x13 I made this piece with everyday items / found items such as safety pins, wire, and spoons. Fascinated by the smooth and slick movements of a snake, I wanted to create the texture again but with the material that would match my 3D AP Studio theme: metal. A snake’s skin almost shines like newly buffed metal. However, I think it has a much smoother movement than the metal objects that we see in daily life (except maybe for an escalator). With the alignment of numerous safety pins, I attempted to create the rough yet slender body of the snake. For the face of the snakes, I use plastic spoons and sequins to give focus to the heads. I also adorned the snake with some sequins to give them some sparkle. I like how even though the safety pins flatten out the snakes’ bodies, they also give them a nice simple shape so that we can easily trace their outlines with our eyes. They could be flat, paper snakes, but the element of wire makes them stronger and more durable. This analogy also echoes the fact that snakeskin is a lot tougher and durable than it may seem on the outside. |
